DD Charity

Supporting charities or providing opportunities to those less fortunate is something we have always been passionate about at DD Hammocks. We believe that everyone deserves to experience the benefits of exploring the outdoors; regardless of age, background or circumstances.

Going forward, we aim to strengthen our focus on charitable activities, and dedicate more time and resources towards doing our part to help. We are now manufacturing special “Charity Edition” hammocks and tarps, and will be making regular donations of these to charitable organisations who can benefit from these products.

We will also be documenting these partnerships as we go; to read more about the work they do and how we've helped out, take a look at the DD Charity Blog where we will be catching up as regularly as possible with the organisation we are supporting.

From small local outdoor groups to larger bodies dedicated to helping people across the globe - if you think we can help, or if you know of an organisation you can recommend to us, then we want to hear from you. At the bottom of this page you can find our contact form - fill this in with the relevant details and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Whilst we are now strengthening our commitment to this cause, supporting charities has always been something we are passionate about. Over the last two years we have been active helping charities; from providing hammocks and tarps to outdoor groups for disadvantaged kids to donations to larger charity bodies. You can read more below about some of our past charitable donations:

2022

This year, the DD Charity initiative has been in full swing, and so far we have helped many organizations and charities get as many people as possible into the outdoors.

By donating sets of charity edition hammocks and tarps every month since January 2022, we have helped support the efforts of organizations such as Kent Wildlife Trust, Kinda Education, The Curtis Palmer Program and many others.

These groups focus on a variety of areas such as wildlife conservation, child development, support for veterans and social support for vulnerable people of all ages. They each work toward a common goal of helping those less fortunate to enjoy exploring the wild and benefit from the healing effect of being outdoors – something that everyone should be able to experience.

Going forward, we aim to continue working alongside like minded organizations to help bring the joys of nature to as many people as possible as part of our ongoing charity program.

To read more about the groups we’ve assisted and the great work they do in their communities and beyond, take a look at the DD Charity Blog for more information!

2021

In June 2021, we helped to support the Thrive project, run by Local Edinburgh charity The Green Team, by donating 5 Camping Hammocks. The Green Team work to run programmes of outdoor activities for young people that provide aspects of conservation, environmental education, and personal development.

In May of this year we donated several hammocks, tarps and camping accessories to the Scottish Charity Nature 4 Health (N4H) to help support their work connecting people with nature and help them experience the physical and mental health benefits of the spaces and species we share our planet with. They offer sessions on camp crafts, foraging, team building games and much more to promote personal development within nature and combat ‘Nature deficit disorder’!

2020

November 2020 = we donated £1,250 raised from our seconds sale to Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders).

MSF are an international, medical humanitarian charity doing great work saving people's lives in conflict zones, natural disasters and epidemics and have been involved in helping with covid treatment as well as measles outbreaks across Central Africa, reopened a bombed-out hospital in Yemen, malaria care in CAR and treated survivors of the Beirut explosion. We feel they do a lot of amazing work.

In 2020 We donated £400 to NHS Charities together. This goes towards helping provide essential support for the UK's brilliant NHS staff and volunteers. As we all know, 2020 had been exceptionally hard for medical staff all over the world and we wanted to do a little to help.

In November 2020 we also donated £170 towards the RSPB's ‘Let's get nature back on track’ appeal.

RSPB - the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is a charity we have supported in the past by equipping rangers protecting the Gola rainforest national park in Sierra Leone with our hammocks and tarps. The RSPB do a lot more than their name suggests working to protect natural wildlife habitats and species (not just birds) in multiple countries around the world, stem the loss of global biodiversity and achieve a more sustainable world.

During 2020 we have donated hammocks and tarps for raffle prizes to a number of people / charities raising money for good causes such as local foodbanks.

In normal years we donate products such as hammocks and tarps to outdoor charities / groups for disadvantaged kids and we plan to do more of this in 2021 and beyond, and then document this for everyone to share in; In normal years we also also donate products for expedition use where money is being raised for charity, however due to covid, 2020 hasn't been the best year for expeditions.

Contacting us regarding personal charity sponsorship / fundraising:

We receive a lot of these requests almost daily, and unfortunately we cannot help everyone that contacts us.

Our slogan is 'Explore the outdoors' - while we have previously made preference to helping those directly who face barriers to do this, such as children and young people from underprivileged backgrounds, we are happy to consider equipment donations to any other deserving causes from those who can show they have already received a good level of sponsorship/raised funds for something very worthwhile.

For those looking for personal 'sponsorship' for their 6 month backpacking trip around South America - yes we do receive such emails! - your trips often sound amazing but sorry we cannot sponsor you :)
