DD Charity Update – Autumn 2026

For our latest DD Charity update, we're catching up with the team at Outfit Moray.

Through the DD Charity Programme, we've recently supported the organisation with a selection of DD hammocks and tarps. We spoke to the team to learn more about their work, what makes the outdoors such an important part of what they do, and where the new equipment will be put to use.

Tell us about Outfit Moray and the work you do.

Outfit Moray is an outdoor learning and adventure charity based in Lossiemouth. Our aim is to actively develop the potential of young people and make a difference to the lives of others, including families and our communities, through accessible and affordable adventurous activities.

Since 2003, we have been providing opportunities for young people, particularly those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged, to take part in activities such as rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, gorge walking, kayaking, canoeing, coasteering, archery, bushcraft, crate climbing and paddleboarding.

Through positive risk taking and learning new outdoor skills, these activities build confidence and self-esteem in the young people taking part, as well as improving their mental health and building resilience to help them better cope with the challenges they face.

How did you become involved?

I started as a freelance Outdoor Instructor for Outfit Moray in 2018 and became a full-time instructor in 2025.

My role enables me to wear many hats, and there are lots of different activities I can deliver. While my passion is bushcraft and wilderness teaching, I can also be delivering sessions in archery, canoeing, coasteering, crate climbing, rock climbing, camping expeditions, fishing, gorge walking, hill walking, mountain biking, map reading, kayaking, Tyrolean traversing, paddleboarding, weaselling, white water rafting… and probably a few other things!

Outdoor Education has always been important in my life, and it is a shame that many council areas aren't able to deliver it. I was really pleased to come across Outfit Moray and such a golden team of individuals who are passionate about sharing their skills and enabling others to take part in these life-changing opportunities.

What is the best part of working with Outfit Moray?

There is a lot of trust, support and freedom that allows Outfit Moray staff to work with people in a variety of ways.

By adapting to our participants' needs and interests, we can maximise engagement and see the benefits of our adventurous activities. By its very nature, positive risk taking helps build connection and trust between our instructors and the young people on our sessions.

We work hard on developing those relationships and connections, as well as those with the organisations we work alongside.

What is the plan for the DD Hammocks & Tarps you've ordered?

Our new DD hammocks and tarps will be used on our regular multi-day hill walking, canoeing and bike-packing camps, which are incredibly popular with the young people taking part, as well as during our bushcraft and wilderness skills sessions.
