DD Charity Update - Summer 2026

Modern Tribe Collective CIC is a Community Interest Company based in Cheshire and South Manchester, using nature-based, psychotherapy-informed programmes to support the wellbeing of men, young people and families. Through the DD Charity Programme, we're proud to support their work and learn more about the difference they're making in their local community.

Tell us about Modern Tribe Collective.

Modern Tribe Collective is a Community Interest Company based in Cheshire and South Manchester. We run nature-based, psychotherapy-informed wellbeing programmes for men, young people and families—getting people outdoors, around a fire, moving, making things and reflecting side by side.

It's preventative work, reaching people early in trusted local green spaces before things reach crisis point. Programmes like our Modern Man: Rewilding Journey men's course, Move Strong – Play Wild for young people and families, and our monthly Fire Circle socials are all built on the idea that belonging, place and practical activity can achieve things that a clinic room often can't.

How did you become involved?

I grew up in South Manchester and came through some difficult experiences myself, including adverse childhood experiences, the loss of a parent and the pull of the wrong crowd.

After travelling and working abroad, I came back to Manchester with a much deeper connection to nature and a renewed sense of self, so I trained in Wilderness Psychotherapy—the first outdoor psychotherapy qualification of its kind.

Modern Tribe Collective grew out of wanting to put that training to work in the community I'm from, for the men and young people I recognise, and for men like my dad. It's lived experience and professional practice meeting in the same place.

What is the best part of working with Modern Tribe Collective?

Watching men who'd never set foot in a therapy room open up around a fire.

The work is honest and unforced—no clipboards, no labels, just people doing things together in the woods and finding that it's changed something.

The team is a big part of it too. We're a small, close-knit crew who genuinely believe in what we're doing. Seeing someone come back week after week, then bring a friend along, is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

How will you be using your DD Hammocks gear?

The hammocks and tarps will go straight into the heart of our delivery.

We're working towards creating a permanent woodland base, and the tarps will provide reliable all-weather shelter so sessions can continue rain or shine. They'll create a sheltered space for fire circles, reflection and sharing a brew together.

The hammocks will be used during our young people's programmes, Modern Man sessions and canoe wilderness journeys, where part of the experience is teaching people how to set up their own shelter and feel at home outdoors.

After the campfire, the hammock is one of the most powerful therapeutic tools we use. Plenty of people have never used a hammock, and many people have never experienced what it feels like to simply be held. The hammock offers exactly that.

Gear like this allows us to create safe, comfortable spaces in nature, which is exactly what this work needs.
