DD Charity Update - Autumn 2025

Elemental Adventures: Connecting Communities Through Nature

As the temperatures fall and the air grows crisp, this is a season that invites us to slow down, gather around the fire, and reconnect with nature. This makes it the perfect time to highlight Elemental Adventures CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise doing just that: offering year-round nature connection opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Based in Wales and led by Nick, a veteran of the RAF, Elemental Adventures delivers a wide range of activities focused on health, wellbeing, and building community through the outdoors. From forest school and bushcraft to mindfulness, storytelling, nature-based crafts; and even woodland management volunteering, their sessions are all about fostering curiosity, confidence, and connection.

“We believe that coming together and immersing ourselves in natural environments encourages a sense of curiosity, confidence, and wonder,” says Nick.

The organisation works with home-educating families, veterans, and local community groups, offering everything from weekly forest school sessions to one-off wellbeing days, many of which are free to attend. They’ve partnered with charities like Woody’s Lodge, who support veterans and their families, and are always looking for ways to make nature accessible to all, no matter their background or financial situation.

Thanks to a transparent payment structure, they’re able to subsidise spaces for families on low or no income, using contributions from paying attendees to open the outdoors to as many people as possible.

But as with many grassroots organisations, funding is a constant challenge. With many grant pots now stretched thinner than ever, Nick reached out to us with a simple request: could we support them with a set of 12 DD Charity Edition Hammocks & Tarps to help expand their work with children and veterans?

It’s was a very easy yes when you see the impact they’re making.

The day we spoke, Nick shared that he tries to engage as many different walks of life as possible to get them to ‘Explore the outdoors’,” Nick adds. “Just last night, we were out in the woods at dusk with a bat expert, observing our resident bat community in their element. The kids really enjoyed having their own bat radars to listen in to the echolocation used by the bats.”

Moments like these reflect what makes Elemental Adventures so special: they combine hands-on learning, nature connection, and pure joy in ways that are deeply memorable.

Nick went on to share that some of the children in their groups are now approaching their teenage years, and parents are asking for regular outdoor activities tailored to older children - something Elemental Adventures is hoping to grow. He’s also preparing to offer more bushcraft sessions for adults and young people, where a bit of confidence, some skills, and the right kit can go a long way.

“We’d like to have a small stock of equipment available for those who can’t afford their own gear but would benefit hugely from learning some self-sufficiency in the wild,” says Nick.

The team’s passion for sharing the outdoors is matched by their creativity and generosity. Whether it's lighting fires under a canopy of trees, guiding a family through woodland crafts, or helping a veteran reconnect with their confidence, Elemental Adventures is a reminder of what’s possible when nature is made truly accessible.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud to support organisations like Nick’s - where small bits of kit make a big difference, and where the focus is always on inclusion, connection, and joy.

Always remember - if you are part of such a charity, or you know of an organisation that could make use of a charitable donation of DD Hammocks & Tarps, then please contact us via the form on this page. We look forward to hearing from you!
