Product packaging

We have always strived to have minimal amounts of product packaging at DD Hammocks.

Most products are supplied solely in their own specially designed stuff sack; itself an important part of the product for storage and carrying when travelling or camping. It is designed to be kept and with proper care will last many years - like our products themselves. This is in contrast to a disposable packet or pouch as is supplied with many similar products on the market.

In 2019, we began phasing out a lot of other packaging associated with our products. Before this, our products arrived from our factory with an individual clear plastic bag which were discarded before being sent out to customers.

This is no longer the case: our products are now received and stored just as they are designed to be sold - simply the products in their own dedicated stuff sack within reusable / recyclable cardboard boxes. This has made a huge positive impact in reducing our plastic waste.

For the time being, there are still some products which do come packaged in plastic out of necessity (for example, smaller multi-part products that are required to be stored in sets). We are looking into ways we can reduce this however, and are making progress.

For example moving forwards: our tarp poles will now be supplied in sets of 2 in their own re-usable carry-case, rather than a plastic sleeve for each individual pole. Our paracord will soon be supplied neatly tied in a bundle rather than in a plastic bag. We will continue to work hard to find new packaging solutions that are as sustainable / minimalistic as possible.
