Tarp Basics: Getting started

Are DD Tarps ready to use?

Yes, our tarps come with 4 guy lines and pegs which allows them to be set-up in basic configurations. However our tarps are very versatile and can be set-up in many, many ways so to get the most out of your tarp we recommend having some cord for use as a ridge line (explained below) and more guy lines and pegs depending on your needs.

What is a tarp ridge line?

Put simply a tarp ridge line (cord / rope) runs from one tree to another either above or below the tarp and is used to support the tarp along its length. DD Tarps have attachment loops on the top side which are designed for a ridge line cord to pass through from the middle at one end of the tarp to the middle at the other end. This allows the tarp to be supported from above preventing water running down the ridge line cord and under the tarp which can happen if the cord goes under the tarp.

Do I need anything else?

As mentioned above the tarps comes ready to use but to use your your tarp to its maximum potential, it is designed so it can be set-up literally hundreds of different ways (see 'Tips, tarp tutorial' page for more info), you may want more guy lines and pegs. Some people have spare cord and pegs or prefer to make their own wooden pegs in the wild but we sell spare pegs and guy lines for people who'd like them.
Extra pegs and guy lines – we offer packs of six extra guy lines and pegs.
Cord x 15m – available on our website strong 6mm cord that works well as a ridge line. Normally only 4m – 6m is needed for a ridge line so you'll have plenty of extra cord which can be used for a range of other useful purposes.
