Modifications and Extras:

Most people have their own personal way to set up their hammock (you will find yours after trying a few different options). Many people end up adding a few extras so below we have listed a few common modifications you might be interested in:

Drip lines: An essential and easy to make extra if camping in the rain (or UK!). They prevent rain water running down the ropes from touching the hammock. Simply tie a piece of string several times round each rope (near the hammock) with the end of the string hanging an inch or two down. This diverts any water running down the rope to your hammock straight to the ground.

Karabiners: To allow easy height adjustment of your hammock. Attach a climbing karabiner to one (or both) ends of the hammock, then tie the rope from the tree to them. You can then adjust the height of the hammock without untying the rope from the tree. These also work as drip rings (please see diagram below):

Cold weather use:  As well as a sleeping bag using a thermarest under you in cold conditions provides good insulation (in hammocks alot of heat is lost from underneath as sleeping bags and clothes are compressed by your weight, losing some of their insulation). With our DD Travel hammock - A 3/4 length thermarest or foam mat can be placed between the two bottom layers (dry leaves can also be used here). This keeps it out of your way when inside the hammock.

Keep your boots dry and close to hand at night: - Find two sticks around 3ft long, and stick them into the ground within reaching distance of your hammock. When taking your boots off at night put them upside down on the sticks. Wake up to dry boots that can be put on while sitting in the hammock.
