Product History:

This page is to help explain the changes that have been made to our products over the years and the differences between the different models of our hammocks.

DD Scout Hammock

The DD Scout Hammock is our original Hammock. When DD Hammocks started our first hammock was named the Camping Hammock. The Camping model has since had new features added several times and our original Hammock has been named the DD Scout Hammock since 2006.

DD Camping Hammock

The DD Camping Hammock (as mentioned above) was our original hammock. Over the years a number of improvements have been made to it. In 2006 a zip was added between the layers allowing the user to be completely cocooned inside it if they wished or the zip could be used to help keep a foam mat / thermarest in place in cold weather camping.
In 2007 we made the Camping Hammock longer (from 2.4m to 2.7m) and it remains 2.7m long today. We received alot of feedback about the ideal length and the majority of people find 2.7m long enough to be very comfy without having excess length which is not used (so it packs as small and light as possible while providing a comfy sleep).
2008 saw us introduce stronger webbing with the Camping Hammock (5 meters attached to either end). We also improved the zip adding 2 double sided zippers.

DD Travel Hammock

Our most popular hammock has changed quite a bit since being introduced in 2005 / 2006. The first model featured mosquito netting and two layers with a zip between the mosquito netting and the base layers. The original netting was not very fine and the 2007 model featured super fine mosquito netting (keeping out all insects including the dreaded British midge!). The 2007 model was also made longer, 2.7m (in line with the length of our Camping Hammock and popular demand).
The 2008 version featured an improved zip with 2 double sided zippers as well as new, stronger green webbing.
In Oct 2008 our Travel Hammock / Bivi was launched. The hammock now had a waterproof base allowing it to be used on wet ground as a bivi if required (ie if there are no trees / hanging points). Other new features were 2 internal pockets for storing small items (phone / torch / keys etc), velcro patches between the two layers of polyester (to help keep a foam pad etc in place when camping in cold weather) and a change of webbing to strong black webbing.
Our new Travel Hammock / Bivi is due out in early December 2009 (hopefully in time for Christmas!)

DD Frontline (FL) Hammock

Our latest hammock the Frontline hit the market in the summer of 2009 and has proved popular. Similar in design to the Travel Hammock it has the same layout design as the Travel Hammock (same webbing and same mosquito net).
The material is new (Polyester 180T) which is extremely comfy, the Frontline is our most comfortable hammock yet! As the material is not waterproof (like the Travel Hammock) it is more breathable and definitely more suited to jungle / tropical conditions than our Travel Hammock. It is also great for use in cold climates too when you dont require a waterproof base or if you want a more breathable hammock than our Travel Hammock.
The Frontline Hammock has 2 zips (one either side of the mosquito net) which is a first for DD Hammocks and is partly due to feedback from those in the armed forces who need to be able to exit their hammocks quickly from either side. It also allows quicker set-up of the hammock as you dont need to worry about what side the zip is on when setting up. Another plus is you can tie the mosquito net up above you (out of the way) when not needed and drop it down quickly when required.
